Pain or Gain?
by Dr David Weller (Managing Director)

If you are an athlete (e.g. rugby player or marathon runner), before an important event, you may feel a little nervous or stressed and even lose a bit of sleep. During the event, you are in constant “fight or flight mode” (stress response). Your adrenaline and cortisone hormone levels are high and your heart rate is racing. Your much-required baseline levels of magnesium can also begin to deplete, as your cells release magnesium into your blood to boost energy production and muscle activity, strength and endurance (including your heart). And, after the event, your body may be inflamed and aching from the strain and toxin production.

At NatuneHeal, our Holistic Wellness & BioEnergy Therapy Centre in New Zealand, where we follow the ancient practice of Ayurveda, we acknowledge that good nutrition and supplementation is often the best manager of pain relief, inflammation, stress and disease.

Ayurveda is a > 5,000 year-old Ancient Naturopathy that uses natural remedies for optimal health and harmonious body function. Your Ayurvedic body type, determined in consultation with an Ayurvedic consultant, will usually require specific types of foods for you to eat, reduce or avoid to remain in optimal condition.

For now, we are happy to share with you this wonderful remedy:

Anti-inflammatory Pain Relief Juice

  • 125 g chopped broccoli
  • 2.5 cm slice fresh ginger
  • 1 orange
  • 1 grapefruit (with white pith
  • 6 strawberries
  • 1 apple (with skin)
  • 1 tsp tahini
  • 1 small chilli pepper

Our natural products relieve muscular, bone and joint pain and inflammation, but also help greatly with muscular relaxation, detoxification, stress, anxiety, heart activity, the vascular system, exhaustion, and mental well-being and stimulation, amongst others. This is because the ancient medicine system of Ayurveda masters how to come up with the right combinations of herbal formulae in the exact concentrations to promote their desired effects. So, for example, our Ayurvedic Gokshura Medicinal Herbal Tea Blend contains:

Tribulus terrestris to relieve muscle tension and stiffness.

Withania somnifera to positively influence general relaxation of the musculo-skeletal system, enhance the mobility of back muscles and promote optimal physical and mental fitness.

Zingiber officinale to restore energy and body vitality.

Asparagus racemosus to relieve stress and muscle tension.

Magnesium is important in muscle function and processes such as oxygen uptake, energy production, electrolyte balance and detoxification. Magnesium can be taken orally as a supplement or through the skin during Water Floatation Therapy. During this therapy, your body floats like a cork within a floatation tank, which holds water that is saturated with up to 500 Kg magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts). During the 1 hour or more that you are immersed in the salt solution, your skin can quickly absorb the required levels of magnesium. This mineral is “the great relaxer and stress buster”. It is an excellent preventer of muscle cramps and tightness (caused by a build-up of lactic acid and other waste toxins), and can reduce nerve stimulation and sleepless nights before an important event. Reach that extra competitive edge with magnesium by boosting your sport’s performance, focus and concentration during your event!
